This blog collects my RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) catechesis and exegesis notes about the Sunday readings. I started writing these weekly columns to give parishioners a view into what we talk about in our RCIA sessions.

These reflections place the Sunday readings in their larger contexts—where the reading fits within scripture, historical or cultural setting information, how the original hearers understood the story, notes about word use and translation, and so on. The reflection also shows how each reading relates to the others by theme, by action, or by specific words, and explains how these relationships contribute to a deeper understanding of the Lectionary message.

You don’t need to be an RCIA participant to benefit from these reflections. These short articles can serve as a starting point for anyone interested in learning about scripture and how the Sunday readings are connected.

I hope you find these reflections informative and thought-provoking.
