Welcome!

This blog collects my catechesis and exegesis notes about the Sunday Lectionary readings.

These short articles can serve as a starting point for anyone interested in learning about scripture and how the Sunday readings are connected. The write-ups “break open the Word” by providing additional context: where each reading fits within scripture, some historical or cultural setting information, how the original hearers understood the story, notes about word use and translation, and so on. The reflections show how each reading connects to the others by theme, by action, or by specific words, and explain how these relationships contribute to a deeper understanding of the Lectionary message.

If you have only a few minutes, read the reflection’s opening paragraph and the closing paragraph. The opening paragraph sets the liturgical time and the readings’ theme; the closing paragraph summarizes the key idea of each reading and offers a few questions to help apply the readings’ lessons to daily life.

I hope these reflections invite you to a deeper encounter with the Word.
